As part of Port Hope Area Initiative activities, contractors will be performing fieldwork in the Chemetron Lagoon area starting in late December.
Future activities include the remediation of industrial waste in the Chemetron Lagoon, which is planned for summer 2022. This work includes the removal and transportation of contaminated sludge to a suitable facility for disposal.
To facilitate this work, preparatory tasks including the dewatering of the lagoon will begin in December 2021. This water will be transported to the Port Hope Long-Term Waste Management Facility for treatment. This activity is expected to be complete by spring 2022.
There are no anticipated impacts to the parking lot located south of the Chemetron Lagoon site, for this phase of the work.
No road closures are expected, however there may be temporary lane closures and increased truck traffic in the area.
